Thrall 54' Coil Car Update

September 23, 2020 17 Comments

This Monday, DHL delivered a box of goodies to our door.  Thirty seconds later, Schon (shipper extraordinaire) transported this box from the receiving area, between the stacks of centerbeams, through the N scale product shelving, past the shipping desk, into a door marked EMPLOYEES ONLY, walked about 30 feet and handed the box to me.  I gave an enthusiastic Ooooooh and then placed the box onto the floor and went back to work on other things that needed to be done.  Sometimes opening goodie boxes have to wait a little longer.  A few hours later I opened the box with my trusty orange handled boxcutter that has been in my possession for about 15 years.  This boxcutter was passed down by a former coworker of mine named Mark.  This was before I worked at ExactRail and...

Maybe I should just stop and get to the point?  But first here is a photo of my boxcutter:

Isn’t it great!

Inside the box were production samples of the long delayed second run of the Thrall 54’ CoilShield & Protector Coil Cars.  These are now in the final assembly stage of life and should be on the water in about two to three weeks.  As long as they get here at a reasonable pace and don’t get stuck for three weeks at customs like the centerbeams did, we should be looking at a November release.

Hooray for everything!

Hey there,
I am wondering will there be more coil cars available in the not too distant future? Perhaps a second run for those who may have missed the first run??… Muchas gracias

Having had a hand in producing the 1st run I am very excited in more of these coming. In fact your CSX with the white logo came from my photos. I am hoping to be able to get some of these when they are available again

“… transported this box from the receiving area…through the N scale product shelving, past the shipping desk…”
Is this perhaps a slight hint that you’re planning to release these in N scale, or is it a subtle reminder that N scalers are still second-class customers?

I second Rod McKelvey’s comment, and express the same sentiment for the Thrall center beam flatcars and the Trenton Works bulkhead flats. Sure would be nice to all, or at least some, of these in N!
